I even went twice
We loved seeing them at Foxwoods on Thursday and were so happy we got to see them again in Boston on Saturday. The whole show was amazing. Ian Astbury's voice has all the power and range it did over 30 years ago when I first fell in love with this band. They all even look healthy and strong. Sonic Temple is one of my all-time favorite albums, and justice was done to it at both shows. For the record, I love seeing bands at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun because it's easy to park, get in and out, have dinner before shows, and drinks afterward.
One of the worst opening acts I have ever seen was the opening band, Spirit Animal - so bad that we are still joking about it. They were so way over their heads and the audience reacted so badly to them that I genuinely pitied them, but not enough to like them even a little bit because they sucked that much. I am bewildered at how they got to open for the Cult. Across the board, they looked, moved, and sounded much more like a sad "Hannah Montana" or Disney Channel tween group sidekick act, but without the assistance of professional choreography, writing assistance for their lyrics, and look stylists to help them out. Their whole sound and presence were totally off-base to work with post-punk or anything else that would have been appropriate to partner with the Cult. Not sure how they got there.
